Educational practices in Medicine teaching
Abstract
Introduction: During the first phase of the doctoral thesis in education entitled El Conocimiento Profesional del Profesor de Medicina (CPPM) en sus Prácticas Educativas, en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Professional knowledge of Medicine professors regarding educational practices at Universidad Nacional de Colombia), the characteristics of educational practices carried out by professors when teaching Medicine were studied, highlighting the lack of research on this topic. The importance of these practices for health education was also stressed. Objective: To identify the educational practices related to Medicine teaching and its components. Materials and methods: A semi-structured interview was applied to 15 medicine professors of the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá campus. Results: Educational practices in Medicine are evident in different academic areas, and include various didactic strategies such as lectures, research seminars, patient care, laboratory classes, demonstration of surgical techniques, clinical cases and community activities. Conclusions: The revised concepts favor the creation of academic environments, as well as the application of appropriate pedagogical models that facilitate communication, therefore, contributing to learning within the educational process. According to the results of the study, two contexts converge in this field: university and health.
