The Governorship of Abidin Pasha
Abstract
One of the leading governors of the late 19th century Ottoman Government was undoubtedly Abidin Pasha. He succedded very important works at Ankara province whe he served long years(1886-1894).Especially,in addition to his services of bringing potable water supply to the city, placing emphasis on road building, opening school;, taking precautions against the development of agriculture and trade by providing security were also remarkable. The knowledge about his background is insufficient. The above stated works of the governor and successes were known in general terms and there are sufficient information about the details of these works in the archives and references. However, these informations were not evaluated or quoted. In this study, particularly his reports presented to the government, the information on the archives and references about his works done in Ankara will be evaluated and the problems of the late19th century's of the city and the works done solving these problems of the city will be presented detaily. The works of Abidin pasha will be an important example for the relationships of the governors with the government, resolution processes and the relationships with the public.
