This article aims to analyze the emergence of teaching in Early Childhood Education in the state of Santa Catarina from Conde Modesto Leal nursery, which was created by the priest Alberto Kollb and it wasfounded by the Catholic Worker Circle of Joinville in the 1930s. That was a social assistance and philanthropic work maintained by the Workers' Circle, which met orphans and children of full-time workers, under the coordination of the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Vincent de Paul Order. The sources of this subject matter are constituted from the Reminiscences of the history of Catholic Workers' Circle of Joinville, like books, files, minutes, photographs and newspapers, which belongs to the collection of this institution. The purpose of this study is to expand the knowledge about the teaching historical constitution in Early Childhood Education from the brands that originated the professionals, and they became their social functions as teaching function, which now are defined as teachers of Early Childhood Education. It was observed that the period which inaugurates the nursery in Santa Catarina was marked by alliances between Church and State, Charity and Philanthropy, around the hygienic, religious and patriotic education of early childhood. The religious and medical- hygienic character is one of trademarks of teaching.
