Os professores e o desenvolvimento vocacional dos estudantes
Abstract
More recently, the role of teachers in students career development has beenrecognised by several Portuguese educational agents and politicians. Nevertheless, systematic research about the topic is scarce. In this article, theauthors present the main findings of a qualitative study about teachers influence on students career development. Data from 46 teachers and 42 students responses to an open inquiry about each group perspectives aboutthe main question of this study were analysed following grounded theorymethodology. Three major grounding axial concepts emerged from the data:the teacher´s general influence in the students, in personal, scientific andpedagogic terms; the teacher´s most specific action in the extent of his/herdiscipline; and, the teacher´s cooperation with other educational andcommunity agents. Implications of data analysis for teacher training arediscussed.
