This text enumerates and describes the several dilemmas and challenges of Education in the 21st century, from the perspective of the last works and educational thoughts of Paulo Freire. The main concern is to (re)read this author taking into consideration the contemporary world educational scenario, confronting the utopistics of Immanuel Wallerstein — well known for his long duration studies and for the concept of modern world-system — with Paulo Freire utopia. Paulo Freire’s idea of "human being" or how pedagogy facilitates the conciliation of its historicity and essenciality is also discussed.
