Gronkowiec złocisty dzięki zdolnościom dużej wirulencji, nabywania oporności na antybiotyki, jak również środki dezynfekcyjne i antyseptyczne stał się obecnie głównym czynnikiem etiologicznym zakażeń szpitalnych o ciężkim przebiegu.
