The siliceous rocks as raw material for the prehistoric man : varieties, definitions and concepts

Abstract

This article discusses some problems related to the nomenclature and definition of the siliceous rocks that were most commonly used by the prehistoric man. The adoption of a nomenclature that is in accordance with the progresses of petrology is proposed, in order to minimize the imprecision in the classification of the lithic raw materials.
