Gathering open source information about the values of factors from the defense system environment using the method of content analysis

Abstract

The process of identifying environmental factors affecting the defense system, as well as the methods of gathering information on the values of environmental factors, are key preconditions for a successful assessment of the defense system environment. The accuracy of information on the values of factors describing the strategic environment of the defense system affects the results of the prediction and development of future environment scenarios. In order to improve the process of gathering information on environmental factors, it is necessary to select reliable information sources and to improve the methods of information gathering. One of these methods is the content analysis, which allows the gathering of quantitative and qualitative values of the identified factors from the environment. Taking into account the limitations of the content analysis method, as well as the limitations of the data source itself, the paper presents the results of the content analysis related to environmental factors in the areas of the defense budget and the armament and military equipment.
