Luis Camacho is one of the leading philosophers in Costa Rica. He has a long academic and professional career which transcends the borders of his country. He places himself within the analytical philosophical tradition, with a particular emphasis in logic and argumentation theory. From such a perspective Camacho deals with a series of topics: philosophy of technology, the relation between science, technology and development, philosophy and history of science, among others. He has occupied several positions in academic administration at the University of Costa Rica, and was a member of the board in the Costa Rican Association for Human Rights, as part of a life-long commitment with the fight for human rights. For many years he was the President of the Costa Rican Philosophical Association. In this portrait we describe his intellectual and professional career, and analyze some of his ideas and convictions in philosophy.
