Evaluation of Organizational Cynicism on the Basis of Generations: According to Generations What is the Target of Cynicism?
Abstract
When we take a look at the manpower today, we observe three different generations at the same time in a workplace. Many employees take part in the organizational system together with the colleagues, the same age with either their parents or children. It is not surprising to find out that the attitudes of those generations with different backgrounds, experiences, expectations and values may be different as well. The aim of this study was to examine the organizational cynicism levels of those generations who have different personalities, values and attitudes and to examine whether the factors related to the target of these attitudes are different too. In the frame of this study, the interviews with the 20 academics who work in a private University in Turkey were examined through content analysis. As a result of the study, it was understood that X and Y generations have different cynicism levels; and based on generations cynical feelings, thoughts and behaviors may differ as well as organizational elements within the target of the cynical attitudes.
