La mondialisation au prisme des migrations internationales
Abstract
Here, Latin American migrations are relocated on a time-scale of world-wide flows and linked to the major phases of globalisation in Latin America. The author begins by examining the significance that is attached to the notion of globalisation and shows how migrations in the Latin American context have always been associated with the political and economic history of the sub-continent, which is permanently scarred by social inequalities and vulnerability. But in proposing a view of the globalisation process as seen through the prism of international migrations, this paper also seeks to place certain traditional ways of looking at migration in perspective by evoking the historical wealth of flows world-wide and the importance alike of the «actors of migration» and their aspirations. Thus the article discusses the evolution of approaches, the emergence of new migratory types (and more generally of types of mobility) and the renewal of the paradigms of migratory analysis as they have survived in the field of social sciences in the last twenty years.
