In this article I discuss three Manuel Bandeira’s poems about Recife (Evocação do Recife; Minha Terra; Recife) both under making view and the reading view. Through the prism of making view, I try to show that Bandeira shared a conception of culture that gave high ethical and aesthetic value to the traditional forms constitutive of the Brazilian art and culture. Hence their easy assimilation by a Pernambuco intelligentsia, which set a "regionalist" reading of these poems, turning them examples of a perception that placed in an idealized past references to a way of life that was to be lost.
