In this paper, the performance of spatial multiplexing (SM) system is investigated in a Rayleigh fading channel limited by co-channel interference (CCI). At first, an expression of the mean bit error rate (BER) for SM system with BPSK and QPSK modulation as a function of the signal-to-noise per bit ratio (Eb/N0), and the signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) is obtained, by considering one prevailing co-channel interference. Validation of the analytical expressions is done by Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that CCI causes a significant degradation on the BER, which vary according to the SIR. The results obtained in this paper, can be applied to a SM cellular network with different number of transmit antennas.
