In the context of social change and improvement, the most important elements to define and identify evaluation research in social sciences and education are presented and commented. From this position and with this strategic orientation, the scope and space of work of evaluation research are defined, and main visions and models used by researchers are presented and described, with indication of distinctive and differentiation characteristics. An evaluation project of the sportive system of La Rioja is used as a reference and help to discover those identification elements, already presented, in a real evaluation research project, and also to offer a metaevaluative reflection.
