Le vlogue engagé comme pratique sociale : essai de conceptualisation
Abstract
Civic vlogs refer to a digital audiovisual media genre in which a YouTube user addresses the camera to express, inform or raise awareness about social issues. Despite their proliferation online, these social-change oriented videos remain at the margins of the field of computer-mediated forms of political talk. To foster more work in this area, this article presents an operational conceptualization of civic vlogs from the perspective of practice theory. Conceptualized as a distinct form of civic discursive practice, civic vlogs are described as being made of three interconnected elements: materials, skills, and meaning. These are interwoven into a technodiscursive performance that coordinates four communicative acts: personal public communication, augmented verbal expression, multimodal media production, and self-presentation.
