Archaeological zones in Italy and Greece restored with reinforced concrete. Assessment of their current state
Abstract
This interesting study is one of the pioneers in examining in depth the effects of reinforced concrete in the restoration of important archaeological monuments of the past in Italy and Greece. It is a privilege to observe and compare the similar criteria adopted in the firsthalfofthe20thcenturyinmanywell-knownplaces, such as the Parthenon, the Palace of Knossos, the Temple of Selinunte, the city of Pompeii or the city of Lindos, and the negative effect of the reinforced concrete that characterises all these interventions on the conservation of these monuments in the long term, with the current problems arising from the need to de-restore the monument.
