Souverainetés et espaces maritimes : le rôle de la pêche en Atlantique sud-ouest
Abstract
The balance of power between nations for sea control takes on a new form for the appropriation of natural resources, in water, on land and underground. The southwest Atlantic is an example of claims to maritime sovereignty. After years of waiting, Argentina expects to extend its EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) to the continental shelf. This will give Argentina new rights and new responsibilities in marine ecosystem use. This article requests access to marine resources for domestic and foreign fishing fleets. It presents sovereignty affirmation in the Argentine Sea between Argentina, Uruguay and the Falkland Islands around the issues of fishing management and the weight of fishing industries. It presents regional cooperation and the role of Argentina in the conservation, protection and management of marine biological resources.
