What's in a Tech? Factors in Evaluating the Morality of Our Information and Communication Practices
Abstract
Moral theologians have paid too little attention to the implications of information technology. Thus, we are left without a solid and systematic methodology for analyzing the morality that comes along with these technologies. Such a needed framework is offered here, supported by a three-pronged approach: instrumentalism, determinism, and cultural materialism, all held up against Catholic social teaching – all in hopes of helping to foster integral human development in the 21st century.
