The behaviour of a mother is a dominant factor in affecting her 4-year-old child's gingival status, showed by 22.3% the mother's behaviour contribution while plaque contribution was only 8.3% in this study. It is a new phenomenon since most theories of gingivitis stated that plaque is the main causative factor. The mother's behavious towards her child's plaque existence is 53.9% (O.7342). Dental plaque consists of microorganisms, which can cause gingivitis, dental caries and many other oral diseases, or disease on vital organs of the body due to oral focal infections. In such cases, a mother's behaviour is a dominant factor not only to her 4-year old oral health status, but also her general health. Health service utilisation, mostly curative treatment, contributes 4.8% while dental health education, which is still unorganised and disoriented, contributes 2.1% toward a child's gingival status. An intervention to the two variables, health service utilisation and dental health education, has a purpose that is to increase oral health state of the community, particularly children's. Generally the mothers have good knowledge, attitude and practice in oral health, yet they have not applied to maintain their children oral health care. The mother's age, family size variable do not contribute much towards the mother's behavior. The biggest contribution is the mother's formal education, and followed by the dental health sevice utilization and dental health education.
