At a time when constitutional democracies would seem to be insufficient to prevent the incessant violation of human rights undertaken by different populist governments, it is essential to rethink the relationship between democracy and law to know how better conditions can be generated for a society tired of the inaction of its authorities. This article raises some reflections and exposes two examples about the role played by these legal actors whose work, in general, tend to go unnoticed by the political systems in which they are inserted; that is, lawyers committed to social action and its own context in order to strengthen the rules and institutions that sustain democracies.
