The present work proposes a didactic sequence to discuss the vaccine importance and the condoms use as human papillomavirus prevention. This experiment was carried out in a public school in Manaus, during biology classes at two classes in the 3rd year of high school. The activity was developed in three moments: 1) classroom observation and lesson plan and textbook analysis; 2) group of students and teacher’ interview; 3) background knowledge analysis and teaching strategy application. It is verified that students feel difficulties to assimilate public health issues and believe that using new ways of approaching content could provide a better understanding to them, making the learning meaningful.
