This text presents an exploratory research on the representations students and teachers experience when using digital tablets in primary school. The research was carried out in the context of the EXTATE project (Touch Tablets Experiment in primary school) conducted in 2013-2014 in 8 primary schools across the French territory (Villemonteix et al., 2014). The results of the analysis of the collected comments show the changes felt by the participants. They question the evolution of the school format and highlight the tensions and complementarities in the forms of knowledge (entertaining, educational, scriptural), of relationships with peers (individualism, collaboration) and with the teacher (self-reliance) or assessment and evaluation processes (formative, normative). These results question the implementation of the process of empowerment of the student. Can we then speak of a paradigm shift of the industrial school (Mœglin, 2012)?
