The Relationship Between Nutritional Behaviours and Sleep Quality in Individuals Applying to Primary Healthcare Organizations
Abstract
Objective:This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional behaviours and sleep quality in individuals applying to primary health care organization.Materials and Methods:This descriptive and correlational study was conducted in September-November 2018 with individuals who applied to three primary care clinics in central Erzincan for various reasons (s=316). Data was collected using a descriptive questionnaire, the nutrition sub-dimension of the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviour Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The height and weight of the individuals were measured. Results:It was determined that 63.6% of the individuals had poor sleep quality and the average score of the nutrition sub-dimension was determined to be 16.64±4.41. A slightly negative and significant relationship was found between the total score averages of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and nutrition sub-dimension (r=-0.196 [95% confidence interval: (-0.297)-(-0.085)].Conclusion:In this study, more than half of the individuals had low levels of sleep quality and above-average levels of healthy nutritional behaviour. It is recommended for healthcare professionals to conduct training programs towards preventing the factors that cause poor sleep quality and unhealthy nutritional behaviour in individuals.
