Research progress on elderly-onset inflammatory bowel disease

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） is a group of chronic nonspecific intestinal inflammatory diseases with unknown etiology. It has been found that approximately 10%-20% of IBD occurs in old age. At present， the prevalence and quantity of elderly-onset IBD are increasing. The treatment strategy of elderly-onset IBD becomes complicated by physical function， presence of comorbidities and multi-drug interactions， which simultaneously affect the selection of IBD-related drugs. In this article， literature search at home and abroad was conducted from 2017 to 2023， aiming to illustrate the characteristics of elderly-onset IBD from two aspects of treatment and malignant tumor surveillance， and provide reference for clinical practice.
