To further understand the film - forming properties of SEBS (styrene - ethylene - butylene - styrene) resins commonly used in solvent - based strippable coatings, the effects of paint film thickness, plasticizer usage and resin weight average molecular weight on the film - forming properties of SEBS resins were investigated respectively according to relevant national standards. Results showed that the cracking problem arose during the film formation of SEBS resins was caused by the internal stress resulting from the shrinkage of the paint film. Hence, a SEBS resin with a weight average molecular weight less than 140 000 shall be selected as far as possible when preparing a coating with SEBS resin.
