The history of labor in Latin America was marked by a turn in the 1980s. This turn brought a lot of criticism and analysis, and the use of new documents to the writing of history. This research article that provides grants to mediate writing a social history of racialization processes experienced by black groups - workers - who constructed socially and racially segregated areas in southern Rio Grande do Sul and northern Uruguay. These spaces created in direct relation to racialization experienced by the State, realizing the nuances that are embedded in their actions. This writing is made possible by the use of various documents, including sources of own black associations.
