The role of organizational social capital in increasing knowledge sharing within the public sector in Vietnam
Abstract
This study aims to establish a research model of knowledge sharing in the public sector and attempts to clarify the role of organizational social capital in the public sector. The knowledge-sharing model is developed based on determining the multidimensional relationship of the organizational social capital with attitudes and public service motivation, thereby influencing the increase in knowledge-sharing. The research is based on a survey of 319 managers working in public organizations and non-business units and social organizations in the public sector and using a structural equation model to test hypotheses. The results show that attitude and organizational social capital have a significant influence on knowledge sharing. Meanwhile, there is no evidence to support the direct effect of public service motivation on the knowledge-sharing process. The research also clarifies the theoretical contributions and gives specific recommendations to motivate civil servants to participate in knowledge-sharing activities.
