Based on a detailed analysis of 11 videos filmed from a university Chinese-French eTandem course, this article explores the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the particular situation of eTandem for language-culture learning through four aspects : technical problems, chat as problem-solving strategy, “time” in the conversation and cultural elements as discussion topics. The analysis shows that technological problems give not only the opportunity for the interlocutors to talk about them but also involve specific knowledge, in particular the specific terms related to ICTs. Problem solving strategies are extended and enhanced by digital tools, especially the Chat. ICTs can bring cultural elements directly into the discussion, trigger other exchanges or even become topics for discussion.
