The aim of this study is construction and validation of Students Academic Motivation Scale among Isfahan undergraguates based on self – determination theory . For this purpose, 123 boys and girls BA students were selected and investigated by multi-stage random cluster sampling method amongst Isfahan University students. Research method was descriptive and of test construction type. Upon examination of academic motivation theoretical basics as well as face content validity, initial motivation criterion for the students was constructed. Resultant data from the research tools were analyzed by means of Explanatory Factor Analysis, Cronbach's Alpha, and correlation coefficients. Research results indicated that students' motivation is made of seven agents, of which 4 items (educational self-efficacy, improvement motive, positive self image, internal motivation for schooling) correspond to the internal motivation and another 3 items (educational environment, social factors, and economical factors) are related to the external motivation. Concurrent validity coefficient of evaluation of academic motivation and academic performance respectively are: economical factors 0.75, educational environment 0.72, positive self image 0.78, social factors 0.77, internal motivation for schooling 0.78, improvement motive 0.76, and educational self-efficacy 0.84. Total Alpha coefficient for this criterion is 0.92. Additionally, research results state that academic motivation scale has a satisfactory validity and reliability.
