With the evolution of energy resources and the large use of fossil fuels, the emission of polluting gases such as carbon dioxide, has gradually increased worsening global warming, caused serious concerns about the future of the planet. Hydrogen emerges as an energetic vector that presents properties that place it as the fuel of the future, in a possible substitution of fossil fuels. Among these properties, it is worth noting that it does not emit polluting gases in the atmosphere, since in its combustion there is only the release of water and energy. The present work aimed to carry out a bibliographic survey of articles published between 2013 and 2017 in Scielo, Google Academic and Periodical Capes bases, undergoes the techniques of hydrogen production. Among the methods of obtaining hydrogen, the electrolysis of water or even by biological methods by species of photosynthetic bacteria, cyanobacteria or algae, and fermentative methods are noteworthy. Research involving the most varied aspects in the implementation of the hydrogen economy must be intensified for the greater viability of its technologies and possible introduction of this fuel into the world's energy matrixes.
