UNESCO's contributions to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage Case study * Algeria *
Abstract
Cultural heritage is the memory of all humanity; it preserves the heritage and knowledge of each civilization, so that it can constitute the link between the past, the present and the future for future generations. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is regarded as one of the organizations that seek to encourage countries around the world to protect and preserve cultural and natural heritage. This property faces the dangers of extinction and destruction in many countries, especially in some Arab countries whose civilization extends to the depths of history, where it threatens its survival, and its continuation as a witness to civilization, and it comes to the forefront of them. The risks are destruction, theft, plundering, sabotage and damage during armed conflict, as well as the illegal trade in bypassed goods.
