Takao Ouchi’s translation work in “Manchu literature”

Abstract

In this paper I explain the position of Takao Ouchi's translation work in Manchu literature. At the time he was writing, in Manchuria Japanese authors didn't attempt to study the Chinese language, and Chinese authors also refused to write novels in the Japanese language. In that situation, through Ouchi’s translations, for the first time people in Japan knew of the existence of the Japanese literature of "Manchukuo" and became familiar with Chinese literature, while the Japanese Manchukuo authors became acquainted with Chinese authors’ works and the darkness that characterized them. Thus, his translation work, which is faithful to the darkness in the Japanese language, widely disseminated the power of Manchu literature. Then, Chinese literature took the leading role in Manchu literature, and it became a relative of Japanese literature.
