O banquete dos prefeitos de 1900

Abstract

The “Mayors' Banquet”, held in Paris on 22 September 1900 to coincide with the 1900 Universal Exhibition, was attended by more than 20,000 of the more than 36,000 municipalities in France at the time. This grandiose banquet was a landmark event in terms of its scale, the date chosen and its political and republican symbolism. It's no coincidence that it took the form of a banquet because, as we all know, in France major events are celebrated at the table: gastronomy is definitely a serious matter in France, and an integral part of its heritage.
