The figure of the other and otherness undoubtedly constitutes one of the most important questions of ethics most important in contemporary school. This paper works on creating awareness regarding the reach and possibilities of such conceptions about education and otherness in the work of two important thinkers Emmanuel Lévinas and Joan Carles Mélich. There is a in depth literature review of the works of both authors using a categorical analysis grid in order to establish agreements and issues between both. It is important to point out that the most important findings in this research process is establishing the importance otherness, that is acknowledging others, in contemporary schools in the educational process of future teachers. There is also a need to redefine some of the most important ethical conceptions in school curricula, as well as the necessity to expand the conceptual horizon of ethical discourses to analyze teachers, students and schools.
