A research is conducted to know the Social Representations of nursing for the alcoholist who reports to the Emergncy Hospital of Florianópolis looking for care. A questionnaire has been developed and applied. made up of verbal stimuli, of which the answers have been recorded and then transcribed and divided into categorie of analysis. To the professionals. the alcoholist is seen as an alcohol addict, one who belongs to the economically poor layers of the population, shows behavior alterations (psychomotor excitation, or sleepness, with poor articulation of speech). to the point of producing negative reactions. In spite of their desire to show technical attitudes. professinals tend to classify the alcoholist as “someone who unduly ocupies the space destined to those who are really sick”. In addition to this. other positionings demonstrate a judging stance, loaded with contradictions.
