Die Rolle der Universitätsbibliothek in der Mediziner-Ausbildung: ein pragmatischer Überblick mit kritischen Anmerkungen / The role of university libraries in medical training and education

Abstract

This article provides a short overview of the achievements of a university library in terms of medical training and education. The special expectations and needs of students, scientists and other non-university groups are represented. Ways to provide further training in hospital and medical practice by the librarian are demonstrated. University libraries are recommended to be more responsive to the specific characteristics of physician education. Instead of observing a uniform user behavior, different groups were noticed. Depending on their educational state they made varying demands on the university library and its resources. Training courses and guided tours particularly are to be aligned more purposefully to the requirements of the medical profession.
