Research on NC Machining Method of Face Gear in High Speed Milling

According to the principle of differential geometry and the theory of gear meshing, and with CNC milling machine high speed milling machined face gear as the research object, the mathematical model of straight tooth face gear is established. Based on the concept of virtual copying of plunge milling cutter to the gear shaper tool, the cutter position calculation of meshing point in high-speed milling process is carried out. Then through the calculation of straight tooth cylindrical gear milling cutter angle range and spindle feed range, by using the UG post processing, the tool path generation and program is got. With the help of VERICUT software, the high speed milling simulation of face gear is carried out. High speed milling test of face gear and detection of face gear is carried out. And by comparing the experimental results and theoretical tooth surface, it is shown that the maximum error is 0.712 μm. The result indicates that the processing way of high speed milling surface gear is feasible.
