This research aimed to investigate the perceptions and feelings of nurses in a hospital which is a center of excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer in the Zona da Mata Mineira region. Through open interviews, nine people participated in the research, in the months of January and February 2012. The following units of meaning emerged from the comprehensive analysis: The movement of putting oneself in another’s position and The contradiction of feelings in care practice. The authors consider that the nurse’s care may be understood in terms of its technical, ethical and human aspects, as these make it possible to deepen interpersonal relationships between those who care, and those who are cared for.
