POSTMODERN TENDENCIES IN THE WORKS OF E. JELINEK
Abstract
This article examines postmodern trends in the early prose works of the contemporary Austrian writer, winner of the 2004 Nobel prize in literature, E. Jelinek. The relevance of the research is due to a new understanding of the texts of Jelinek in the post-modern paradigm. The aim of the research is to selectively analyze the early prose works of E. Jelinek from the point of view of postmodern aesthetics and identify postmodern features in the theme, intent, content and structure of the works. Methods of research: contextual analysis, literary analysis, method of description comparative analysis and interpretation. The research material is monographic works on the theory and history of postmodernism, revealing the reasons for its origin and philosophical foundations, as well as critical and literary articles devoted to the work of E. Jelinek and selected early prose of the author. Results. The study showed that in the prose works of E. Jelinek, the postmodern worldview and the main features of literary postmodernism are fully manifested, i.e. denial of the integrity of the hero and personality, strategies of myth-destruction, intertextuality, collage technique, marginality, game use of transformed quotes, allusions, zero plot, presence of fools, criticism of rationalism and logocentrism, complete rejection of engagement. Multilayered texts and play with meanings by E. Jelinek lead to ambiguity of interpretations. Practical application of the research results. The materials of this research can be used in the preparation of special courses and textbooks on modern Austrian literature.
