Abstract : This research approaches the meanings encoded in the written speeches on the slogans carried by the Algerians during their demonstrations against the ruling system, started on February 22, 2019. The demonstrations, which were a reaction against the deterioration of the social, political, and economic conditions, were one of the largest events in contemporary Algerian history. These speeches embody strong connotations and literary and artistic meanings which align with many different aspects of life. The research concluded that these speeches demonstrated the ingenuity of the people in using irony to express a painful reality which they endured for more than two decades. Keywords: satirical speech, movement, poetics of satirical speech, banners, slogans
