The modern concept of State security comprises a transversal and multidisciplinary approach, including, among others, energy, cyber and food securities. Major food producers or food importers includes food security as one of the National security´s policies main stream. In this context, strategic food security policies are essential to the sovereignty, economic development and political stability. The aim of this work was to contribute to this debate, which includes food security as a relevant component of National security and defense policies. This paper discusses the role of food security on major security policies, comparing food security approach on countries with different political and economic systems. The paper highlights the strategy on food security policies involves the political model, the role-play by the country on the global food security and the food self-sufficient approach. As a major food producer and global food exporter, Brazil plays an important role on global food security. Meanwhile, a food security policy should be consider as essential part of a national security strategy, which would support the Brazil economic development and its global political influence.
