This contribution, which takes the form of two articles (I - Aid-interest; II - Aid-exchange), aims to take stock of French cooperation policy or official development assistance. Because of its history and content, this public policy has a paradigmatic value. It is built on two clichés that we will attempt to deconstruct in each of the two articles. The first cliché, which is analyzed in this first article, refers to the schizophrenic nature of aid, which is highlighted in most official texts. It is based on the pair solidarity/interest, referring to the permanent gap that would characterize it, between good intentions of solidarity and the cold reality of national interest. In reality, the second dimension has a clear advantage over the first.
