The Disasters of War, TV Series realized by Mario Camus in 1982, is an ambitious project tackling at once a thorny matter in French-Spanish relationship and a founder moment for Iberian History. Built upon the complex personality of Goya, it’s also a Spanish-French production ; between the scripwriters, the presence of the committed intellectual Jorge Semprun testify this reality. This work proceeds from a double critic, aesthetic and historical. The first is focalizing about the place and the part attributed to Goya, the second analyzes the way which the Series fits into the Spanish (and European) context while proposing a Peninsular War’s “new” interpretation.
