This article discusses the social and academic evolutions in the stratification of French higher education institutions. Through a comparison of students admitted in law and history courses in the Ile-de-France region between 2016 and 2019 (the Parcoursup platform replaced Admission Post-Bac in 2018), we show that differences between higher education institutions remain primarily structured by the opposition between selective and non-selective degrees. In law faculties, all non-selective programs are now allowed to rank applicants, which leads, together with demographic growth, to an increased academic selection. For some programs, the public is approximately the same as in selective Parisian law faculties. In history, we observe above all a polarization of courses according to the district.
