The educational presence of Tuscan protestants in the educational field from the Italian unification at today
Abstract
After the Italian unification, Protestant churches in Italy and in particular in Tuscany, the subject of this research, applied their fundamental principle of the importance of literacy and the ability of the person to develop a critical mind, creating a number of schools that have achieved a twofold purpose: reducing illiteracy and anticipating the public school on many methodologies and didactics that have made true pedagogical avant-gardes, reiterating their secular and non-confessional character. The improvement of the quality of public school, the advent of fascism and the aversion of the Catholic Church have, however, decreed the closure in the first decades of the 20th century, although educational avant-gardes and educational realities have come to the new millennium, followed by other Reality born later.
