Although eform activities in the Turkish education system began during the Tanzimat period the process speeded up during Abdulhamit II and especially during Mesrutiyet II (Constitutional Monarchy) period. The press activities, which began durinh Abdulhamit II with the "Usul-i Cedid" (New Method) activity and aiming to introduce the new educational perceptions into the Turkish education system, were important. The early years of the Republic of Turkey was a period when the main principles and ideas of the educational movements of the western reformist were adapted and practiced in a more planned way.
