Identification of third molars in patients with orthodonctic treatment
Abstract
An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 300 patients aged 8 to 18, assisted in the Orthodontic Service of “José Martí Pérez” Teaching Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, was carried out from December, 2014 to March, 2015, aimed at determining the presence of third molars and their characteristics. The necessary information was obtained from the medical records and panoramic X-rays, and the existence of the four wisdom teeth was among the main results (70.7%), that which was more frequent in the 6-12 age group (48.1%), female sex (53.8%) and mestizo ethnic group (60.4%). It was concluded that most of the case material presented at least a third molar, mainly in the jaw.
