Abstract

This article examines the Dantesque theme of the journey to the underworld within a corpus of twentieth-century Italian fantasy texts: Alberto Moravia’s Oltretomba americano (1940), Dino Buzzati’s Viaggio agli inferni del secolo (1966), Giorgio Manganelli’s Dall’inferno (1985), Ferdinando Camon’s Il quinto stato (1970) and La vita eterna (1972).
