Intellectual Elite Formation in the 17th Century and Prokhor Kolomnyatin’s Works

Abstract

The article analyzes the Russian intellectual elite formation processes whose emergence is dated back to the mid-17th century and is connected with the introduction of Baroque culture. Baroque culture admirers first appeared among the clergy with a small group of syllabic scribes among them. The article studies the creative work of one of them, Prokhor Kolomnyatin, with reference to the analysis of his Azbukovnik collection (ABC of Knowledge).
