Community TV: what television do you watch? Audience measurement of the community channel TV San Jorge de Ocaña
Abstract
The research proposes, within the framework of Democracy and the Media, the analysis of the community television audience, in order to elucidate (1) if its programming has variety and a high degree of participation of its audience in the production of the contents, as required by Agreement 009 of 2006 of the National Television Commission, and (2) if its audience index is really representative to speak of a television with social impact in Ocañero homes. It is based on the assumption that to the extent that there is a positive interaction between the content and the audience in terms of participation and an educational and cultural orientation of its programs, a community television is being configured that promotes democracy and public opinion deliberative, autonomous and purposeful. The method used was the survey, pertinent to quantitatively know the perception that the audience has about the frequency of consumption of this audiovisual medium, time spent observing its programming, coverage, among other items. The method was tested for reliability and validity (internal and external), by conducting a pilot test in the Parabolic Antenna Users Association, Asucap, San Jorge de Ocaña, which allowed to refine the application of the instrument. so that they are replicated in the other community channels that are taken as a sample. The representative number of associates was randomly selected based on the total number of them that the system has so that they are surveyed on consumption preferences. The expected results were, in the first instance, the knowledge of the operation of the community television Tv San Jorge for the creation of a database that justifies the proposal of a media observatory based at the Francisco de Paula Santander Ocaña University, a graduate on community TV, a line of research and a hotbed for the analysis of this type of measurements.
